COVENTRY COAT OF ARMS BRIDGE ROAD SP 37 NW 17/423 Stivichall Animal Pound

GV II

Former animal pound. C19 with C17 origins, restored C20. Coursed squared stone and red brick with brick and stone coping. Rectangular enclosure with walling approx l½m high on 2 sides, the rest only a few courses high. The wall to south is mostly of large stone blocks, probably C17. Inside the floor is of stone flags and there is a gate socket stone at the former entrance. The pound was mentioned in 1663. Included for group value. (V.C.H., Warwickshire: Vol.8, p.94)
